Yes, Even as a Single Woman! by Apryll Williams
If you're anything like me, you've probably seen the word homemaking and thought it was reserved for wives and moms. But let me tell you—homemaking is for anyone who wants to create a beautiful, peaceful, and intentional living space. That includes single women like us.
Recently, I’ve been embracing the idea that my space—especially my bedroom—is worth caring for deeply. It’s my place of rest, inspiration, prayer, creativity, and sometimes work. And making it beautiful and cozy has changed how I experience my day-to-day life.
In this blog post, I’m walking you through how I’ve been transforming my bedroom into a peaceful retreat, complete with practical tips, cozy vibes, and a few of my favorite finds complete with links so you can grab them too!
1. Start with Intention, Not Perfection
When I first started thinking about making my space more beautiful, I was intimidated. I’m not an interior designer, and truthfully, organization hasn’t always been my strong suit. But I realized homemaking isn’t about perfection—it’s about stewardship. It’s about making the most of what you have, right now.
My first step? I made a list of how I wanted my room to feel. Peaceful. Spacious. Rest-worthy. A space where I could reflect my values—like prayer, vision, and creativity.
TIP: Write down 3–5 words you want to describe your room. Use those words to guide every choice you make.
2. Bring In Meaningful Touches

One of my most treasured items is a painting a friend gave me for my birthday. On the back, she wrote a prophetic word from Isaiah: “Arise, shine, for your light has come.” Every time I look at it, I feel encouraged and reminded of my purpose.
This painting is now a centerpiece in my room—not just because it’s beautiful, but because it means something to me.
IDEA: Include items in your room that tell your story—art, photos, vision boards, or even meaningful quotes.

3. Cozy Textures Are Everything
Once I had the feel of the room in mind, I started thinking about textures—things that would make me want to curl up with a book or breathe deeply after a long day.
I added:
TIP: Don’t worry about matching everything perfectly. Go for layers that feel inviting and soft to the touch.
4. Organize With Beauty in Mind
This one was hard for me! I used to let the top of my dresser turn into a black hole of stuff. But I learned something simple that changed everything: Everything needs a place.
Now I use pretty trays, small baskets, and boxes to keep my space tidy and beautiful.
TIP: Choose storage that’s both functional and beautiful—something you enjoy looking at!
5. Use Lighting to Set the Mood
Lighting completely transforms a space. I added a warm-toned bedside lamp and some soft LED string lights for evenings when I just want to wind down slowly. It’s one of my favorite parts of my room now!
TIP: Avoid harsh white lights in your cozy zones. Go for warm, yellow-toned lighting for a relaxing vibe.

6. Create Your Peaceful Corners
I now have a few little “stations” in my room:
A prayer + vision corner with my board
A work nook with a small desk
A resting zone with my bed as the centerpiece
None of it’s Pinterest-perfect, but it’s mine. I love walking into my room and feeling like I belong there.
IDEA: Make your room work for your routines—devotionals, journaling, working, resting, or creating.

7. Beauty on a Budget: My Homemaking Philosophy
You don’t need to spend tons of money to make your room beautiful. Some of my favourite pieces were thrifted, gifted, or DIY'd.
If you're crafty, you might want to try painting your own art (I do this sometimes!), or if you’re more like me, browsing Pinterest and recreating a vibe on a budget works too.
TIP: Start small. One basket, one frame, one cozy pillow can make a big difference.
Final Thoughts
Homemaking isn’t about whether you’re single, married, or in transition. It’s about caring for your space—because you matter. Your rest matters. Your peace matters.
Creating a beautiful and cozy bedroom has helped me become more productive, more rested, and more present. And the best part? I’m doing it for me, not for some future season. Just me, right now.
If you’re ready to get started, try one thing today: rearrange a corner, hang up a piece of art, or light a candle and thank God for your home. It’s yours to steward—and it’s worth it.
